Calling Community Members to Serve on Our School Site Council: We Want You!
The School Site Council is in need of additional parents/community members. The elected members will represent parents, students, community members, and school staff in school governance for a two-year term. SSC meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month.
The SSC operates as an advisory board to the principal - it is distinct from the PTA, though we collaborate with the PTA. The SSC engages in strategic planning and creates the School Site Plan (and the PTA supports the plan). We do not do any fundraising, but we help to oversee the site budget.
This year we have one spot available on the Council and we also have a need for 3 elected alternates. ALL ARE WELCOME. It is critical that we have a good cross-section of our community. If you are interested in serving, or if have any questions/need some clarification about the function of the SSC, or if you might enjoy serving, please do not hesitate to reach out to me: Julia Kreitzer at email@example.com or (510) 364-2745.
If you are ready to serve, please send me a short bio.
Here is a sample bio to give you an idea (this is just an example; please feel free to write whatever you wish):
Children: 3rd grade (Charlie) and 1st grade (Benji)
Bio: I grew up in the Bay Area and love our neighborhood and our school. Advocating for children, families, and education is one of my lifelong goals.
Once all bios have been received, we will hold an election during the week of October 14. Our new members will be elected in time for the next SSC meeting on Thursday, October 24. Thank you all in advance for offering your time and energy to serve our school community.
Join the PTA!
So far this year, 64 people have joined the Friends of New Traditions PTA. A big thanks to all of you! If you haven’t already, please do so now - it costs only $10 to join, and as a member you’ll be able to take part in the decision-making process about how PTA resources (time, energy, and money) are used to support our school. Your input is critical!
Good Eggs Fundraiser
The good folks at Good Eggs want to give our school money! For the months of October and November Good Eggs will give back 5% on all orders. Too good to be true? Nope!
Enter our school code: NTFALL2019
If you are new to Good Eggs, they will even give you $20 off your first order! We'll earn a $150 bonus if 10 new families try Good Eggs for the first time, and an additional $350 for 20. If that wasn’t enough… the first 5 new families to shop with our school code will win flowers. Winners will receive a code to redeem flowers in their next Good Eggs delivery.
Shabbat Club: Inviting all families to join!
The Shabbat Club After-school Enrichment programs provide opportunities for children to experience rich Jewish culture through activities and crafts that express the fun and excitement of Jewish holidays and lore, while making new friends and creating great memories.
Two Age groups | Pick up provided from New Traditions | 3:30 - 5:30 PM every Thursday starting Sept. 26
STEM - Build a dollhouse while learning about the Jewish objects found in our homes
2nd - 3rd Grade
Junior Chefs will explore some core Jewish values centered around the kitchen. They will think about why they eat, where their food comes from, how to make good food choices and how to follow a recipe. They bake/cook each week and come home with a beautiful scrapbook of all the recipes.
